Q 1.
What is Remote Patient Monitoring System?
Remote Patient Monitoring System is about gathering
physiological data from the pateint's body and transmitting it to a remote web
server using a mobile phone where a physician can monitor the patients
conditions and take actions accordingly.
Q 2.
What is the duration of this project ?
The project is funded by Ministry of ICT, R&D for a period of
three years (2008-2010)
Q 3.
Why is there a specific focus on Antenatal Care?
The current medical statistics clearly show that the present situation
of antenatal care is catastrophic. Only 31% of the total births are attended by skilled personnel
(World health statistics, WHO, 2007). This leads to Infant mortality rate in
Pakistan being highest among SAARC countries standing at 70 deaths per 1,000
live births (The State of Pakistan's Children, 2006, SPARC, Islamabad). We
aim to completely change the present medical infrastructure in order to reduce
the alarming rates of maternal mortality rate in Pakistan.
Q 4.
What will be the outcome of this project ?
Our main goal is to provide low-cost and reliable automated solution to
provide basic health facilities to the patients in remote areas of
Pakistan. This will help us to revamp the entire medical system and remove all
of its deficiencies in order to guide Pakistan on golden lines of prosperity and
peace.
Q 5.
How this project differs from Telemedicine ?
The Remote Patient Monitoring Concept is different from
telemedicine in a way that there is no need of any particular place or room
where the doctor can treat or diagnose the patient. We plan to provide the basic
telemedicine facilities at the doorstep of people living in remote areas.
